Atelier of initiation into research in Medieval Studies (Atelier de Iniciação à Investigação em Estudos Medievais) I and IIResearching on the Middle Ages: working on IEM’s projects, organized by Institute for Medieval Studies (IEM-NOVA/FCSH) 

During the first and second semester of the academic year 2023-2024, our research team welcomed as an intern the student Diogo de Primo Tomé Moreira, a student of the three-year degree in History of the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities of Lisbon within the Atelier of initiation into research in Medieval Studies (Atelier de Iniciação à Investigação em Estudos Medievais) I and IIResearching on the Middle Ages: working on IEM’s projects, organized by Institute for Medieval Studies (IEM-NOVA/FCSH).

 

 

Diogo Moreira worked on the following study topic, linked to research on the illustration of illuminated legal manuscripts in the Middle Ages: Justice, Kingship and Divine Order: An Iconographic Analysis of the Representations of Emperor Justinian in Some Legal Manuscripts Illuminated in Bologna in the First half of the 14th century the internship involved the creation of a written work on the aforementioned topic, participation in the Conference “Through Time” (Através do Tempo), organized by the students’ N.HIST – Núcleo de História of the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities of Lisbon and also the preparation of a poster. The internship allowed the student to acquire practical training in research, through the drafting of a written study work, to contribute to the transfer of knowledge to society through participation in a conference intended for other students in training, to collaborate with professional researchers who make up the scientific committee of our research team.

 

 

 

 


 

IUS ILLUMINATUM International Summer Course – Legal Illuminated Manuscripts Between Art, History and Literature

The course organized by the members of the IUS ILLUMINATUM Research Team, hosted by the Instituto de Estudos Medievais in the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities of Lisbon, aims to complement the training of future researchers in Art History, Medieval History and Literature and to provide students with an introduction to the production of illuminated legal manuscripts in medieval Europe (5th-15th centuries) by an interdisciplinary approach.
